I've never really been one for making new years resolutions and certainly hadn't planned to write a post about it but here I am, giving it to you, from the heart. I came across this quote and it really stuck with me. It feels powerful, full of positivity and something I'm sure to keep returning to throughout the year for a shot of 'ass-kicking'. Heck, I may even print it out and pin it on my wall or slip it in my diary for a daily empowerment sesh. But in all seriousness, I do love this quote.

These are not so much my new years resolutions but more goals and aspirations for the coming year. Things I wanna change, do and see. Things to keep in mind and be inspired by.

✸ EXPLORE
A short trip to London and Paris is already booked up for March and Itineraries being drawn up (geek). Iceland and New York are topping the list for other places we want to visit this year but at the moment, they're both financially unattainable and staying firmly there, at the top of the list...but  there's no harm in having something and somewhere to aim for! But I also want to explore more of the UK and places nearby. Edinburgh, The Lake District and even more of Newcastle itself.

✸ UN-PLUG
Have some down-time from social media and all the other technology that comes with life these days. Don't get me wrong, of course I love it, I'm using it right now, but I need to train myself to have a little time-out from it and connect back into the 'real' world as it were. I want the last thing I see before I go to bed are the pages of a book, a paper book not a Kindle and not my Instagram feed of Facebook feed. As the quote goes 'The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go'.

✸ STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF
I’m not the most self-confident person and find it hard to feel proud or accepting of my capabilities, as my school reports would always say ‘Lucy needs more confidence’. With using social media so much, it’s easy to get swept up in comparing yourself to others with the tiny snapshots of other people’s lives that you get, thinking you’re not good enough and should be doing more. Or that your style isn’t the same or you don’t really have one, your blog not right and so on. It can soon take you down a notch or two on the happy feelings scale. So this quote is really important to me this year, I’m just going to post about what I love, wear what I want and basically cut myself some slack. I’m going to stop getting distracted by thoughts about what I think I should be doing and concentrate on more of what I want to be doing.

✸ GET STUFF DONE
I’m not talking about getting round to doing the mundane here, like washing or dishes or tidying the house, I’ve got completing mundane task down to a T. It’s more about getting blog posts written (and published) and making new stock for my online shop, getting myself ‘out there’ as RENIQLO. This is solely a confidence and self-doubt  issue, trust me, I have books filled with ideas that could see me through to 2017 but there always seems to be this ‘thing’ stopping me from actually getting them out there. I just need to work on being happy to just be me then I reckon the rest will follow. My aim is to just sit down at my laptop and get it done, and not open up a multitude of tabs for facebook and bloglovin’ and about 20 other blogs to see how my next post will compare. I put a lot of pressure on myself to try and put out the best content that I can that I actually make myself feel anxious and stressed, and very dis-heartened if things don’t go to plan. This leads to putting things off and before you know it 3 months have gone by without a single blog post because I got scared and into that whole cycle of comparing myself to others again. Not healthy. So I write this, straight from the heart and into the only open tab on my screen, my blog.

There's also the usual, you know eat better, get fitter etc etc. But I'm not making any concrete resolutions I'm just going to be making more conscious decisions about what I'm putting into my body although I will be giving the sugar detox another go. I'm embarking on my first road run since the Great North Run tomorrow, with the aim of training towards another half marathon at some point during the year. I've also been doing a few workout videos at home by Fitness Blender, on their Youtube channel. Other than that I'll just be developing my addiction to Pinterest!

And I'll leave you with this...
